Tiny princesses and goblins scurry down the street, clutching onto their candy-filled buckets and trying to ring as many doorbells as they can. A few feet behind them walk a group of teenagers carrying small orange, cardboard boxes, dressed in the same attire they were wearing a few hours earlier at school; they are also competing with the other trick-or-treaters to stop by as many houses as possible.
These high-schoolers are members of Key Club, and they are going to be trick-or-treating to collect money to donate to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), a coalition dedicated to providing assistance to children and their mothers in developing countries.
“By (trick-or-treating), I want to help children in other countries who don't have access to the same advantages or help that we do,” Key Club member senior Zack Goode said.
Key Club president senior Alyssa Gustafson said the members hope to collect about $1000-$2000. Key Club members plan to collect in areas in Columbus, so keep an eye out for them in your neighborhood Oct. 31.
