Starting April 1, sales tax will be increased from 6 percent to 7 percent. The rise in the tax is to offset the property tax reduction meaning the change will help lower property tax bills. Along with the new tax rate, gas prices are at a record high. Students share their opinions on money problems they believe the future holds.
freshman Payton Stevenson
"I think it is getting harder and harder for people to live. Things are way too expensive, especially gas."
sophomore Emily Wheeler
"Right now I do not feel pinched because I still rely on my parents and do not have a job but once I start using my own money I will probably run into problems."
junior Jared Lancaster
"Yes, prices today have jumped to ridiculous numbers. I think we need to rethink the economy and find another way to transport stuff."
senior Sami Sears
"I think something needs to be done to help with the gas problem. We need to figure something out."
