Sweat runs down their foreheads. Their hearts, along with their feet, race against time to keep themselves moving. The pain surges up their muscles wanting their bodies to stop, but all this hard work will pay off at the finish line.
The men's and women's cross country teams will compete at State together, one of only two schools in Indiana to have both the men's and women's teams race in the IHSAA competition. The other is Carmel.
"I think I'm excited, but at the same time you can't psyche yourself out," sophomore Zach Gates said about the competition. "As a freshman I was in the top 12, but I didn't go to state."
Both teams will compete for the State title in Terre Haute on Oct. 27, at 1 p.m.
